It was the biggest ever launch of a software product with stores opening at midnight and buyers around the world waiting to get their hands on... an operating system! It was Windows 95. This show looks at the hoopla surrounding the launch of Windows 95, the product itself, and several Windows 95 add-on products including Microsoft Office, Viking RAM Chips, Uninstaller, Trispectives Professional, and The Hive. Originally broadcast in 1995.

Really fun to look back!
Windows 95 looks so prehistoric compared to what we have today. It's simply amazing how far computers have come since Windows 95.

The lowest point in PC history
What a real loser Win 95 turned out to be, but at the same time spawned excellent OS'es like Win 2000 and 2003 Server. It only took 5-8 years, but hey, good things come to those who wait! =)
Win 95 was also successful at teaching hundreds of millions of people around the entire world a new thing called "computer troubleshooting", and spawned a new industry of pay-for tech support lines, fax back assisitance, and web based tech support and FAQs.
I guess in many ways Win 95 was a really great thing for this industry. We might not have ever had all the great things we have now if it wasn't for all the frustrated people that developed much better products.
So I stand corrected, hats off to you Windows 95 old friend!! A true hallmark in computing history!! :-)
